The Literacy Connection and the authors scheduled to attend this year’s Cavalcade of Authors have been monitoring information from local and state health authorities and the CDC regarding COVID-19. In the last few days, some authors have cancelled their attendance because of the spread of the virus; many expressed reluctances to travel to or through the apparent epicenter of the virus’s spread in the United States. None of us wish to spread the virus inadvertently, even though currently the level of risk here is low. Reluctantly, and with heavy hearts, we must cancel this year’s Cavalcade of Authors, and the scheduled author visits to schools and libraries. Refunds or vouchers will be offered to the organizations and individuals who paid for registration, t-shirts, or author visits. We gratefully acknowledge the many people who contributed in any way to bring these events to students of our region this year. We appreciate your patience and understanding and look forward to seeing you at our next Cavalcade of Authors.
