Cavalcade of Authors is dedicated to providing students of our region access to some of the best children’s and young adult authors/illustrators, and to promote reading and writing within our community. We provide an authentic writing conference experience where students interact and learn from the ultimate mentors – the authors of the books they are reading.

Started in 2009 by local middle school librarian, Michelle Lane, Cavalcade of Authors is an event held every spring to celebrate reading and writing.  With a staff of volunteer librarians, teachers, and parents, the event begins with a kick-off at Barnes and Noble and ends with a dynamic workshop style conference.  In its prime, over 1000 students attended the conference yearly to participate in workshops by well known, award-winning authors.

Authors also visit local schools and businesses throughout their stay to further promote the love of reading and writing. While the conference itself is open to middle and high school students, elementary schools in the region are offered educational and engaging visits by our featured authors at a greatly reduced cost. In addition, we are committed to providing multiple author visits each year at no cost to schools who are unable to allocate funds for author visits. Through these school visits and the conference itself, our goal is to place invited authors in front of as many students as possible during their stay. It is no exaggeration to say that lives have been changed as a result of experiences facilitated by Cavalcade of Authors.
